Katie wrote: I made it through the surgery to remove my tumor without any of the side effects they predicted. It didnt seem to affect my ability to learn. It was through that trying experience that I learned it is not only what happens to you, but what you do about it that matters. Katie only missed one semester at ISU due to her surgery. She soon returned to school, more determined than ever to succeed, and she was able to make it through all her classes with As. Ka-tie continued to work her way through school, working 30 - 40 hours a week while taking the maximum amount of credit hours allowed each semester. In 2002, Katie married her husband Dallin Crawford. Their first year of married life had some challenges, with Katie still experiencing some side effects from the brain tumor, and medical bills piling up from the checkups she had to have every six months. 58 www.wpma.com / Winter 2021'
