After graduation, she passed the examination that granted her a license in social work, and started her career as a Licensed Social Worker at BinghamMemorial Hospital in Blackfoot, where she assessed new patients mental and emotional health, and coordinated patient care.Ka-tie wrote: I am grateful that you saw something in me when you awarded me with this scholarship, but more importantly, I hope you see that your money was a worthwhile investment.In 2005, Katie and Dallins first children, boy and girl twins, were born. Katie quit her job to become a stay-at-home mom. At about this same time, Dallin graduated from ISU with a degree in Electri-cal Engineering, and the family moved to Boise, where he began his career. In 2007 another boy was born, followed by another set of twin girls in 2009. Their large family kept Katie and Dallin busy, but Katie wrote that being a mom was better than she had dreamed it could be. As the children grew older, Katie volunteered her time coaching their sports teams, working in the PTA, serving in Boy Scouts, and volunteering at her childrens schools. She and her active family have always enjoyed being outdoors and traveling. Every summer the family goes on a backpacking trip in the Idaho wilder-ness. One of Katies hobbies is running, and she recently ran a half marathon with her friends.Katie and her family now live in Meridian Idaho, where Dallin works in Design and Development in Quality Assurance forMicron. When her youngest girls started middle school, Katie decided to go back to work. She found a position as a FamilyAdvocate for the West Ada School District, where she now spends her days helping homeless families, connecting disadvantaged families with resources, and helping refugee families adjust to the American life and the school system.Katie writes: I am very grateful for the WPMA scholarship, as I know I would not have chosen to attend college without it; and earn-ing a college degree has positively shaped every decision in my life.We are glad to hear that the WPMA scholarship helped Katie throughout her college years, and to achieve her career goals.She has made a beautiful life for herself and her family, andwe wish her continuing success in the years ahead.WPMA News / Winter 2021S 59'
