WPMA News / Fall 2026 7 Association Information Welcome—President Annie Marszal We recently questioned our WPMA 2026–27 President, Annie Marszal, of Lahiana Petroleum LLC in Paia, Hawaii, to find out a little more about her. Here are her answers to our questions: How long have you been in business? How did the business get started? By whom and why? My family’s journey in this industry began in 1971, when my dad, Ed Marszal, was hired by Standard Oil of Ohio as an ATLAS TBA representative. His career eventually brought him to San Francisco, where he met my mom, who was also working for Chevron at the time. Ten years later, through hard work and an entrepre- neurial spirit, they had the opportunity to become Chevron dealers at a vacant gas station in Carmichael, CA. They took a chance, and that leap of faith marked the beginning of California Retail Manage- ment. Forty-five years later, our family business is still going strong. In 2002, we expanded to Hawaii with the acquisition of three Shell stations on Maui, and Lahaina Petroleum was born. Over the decades, our family has proudly sold Chevron, Shell, 76, BP and Aloha branded fuels. I officially joined the company in 2011. Today, my brother, Adam, and I are honored to lead the business as the second generation, grateful for the foundation our parents built and the opportunities they created for our family. What’s your favorite thing about the petroleum business? My favorite thing about the petroleum business is, and always will be, the people. I love building relationships, making con- nections and sharing ideas with my indus- try friends. Friendships and community are what make this business so special for me. Who is your Hero or Mentor? Ed Marszal is my superhero. He also happens to be my dad. Growing up on the east side of Cleveland, he came from humble beginnings but always dreamed of building something more. He became the embodiment of the American Dream, and I am incredibly proud of where he started and the life he built for our family. Despite working long hours to grow the business, he always made his family a priority and taught us the value of hard work. Anyone who knows me beyond this “spotlight” article knows that my dad and I were BFFs. We lost him on March 21, 2021, just 12 days after I gave birth to my firstborn, Little Eddie. It was a profound chapter in my life, learning how to be a mom while navigating tremendous loss. Through it all, one thing has never changed: I always strive to make my Dad proud. What aspects of our association would you like to work on during your term in office? During my term, I would like to focus on strengthening connections across our state associations and increasing engagement among our members. WPMA is stron- gest when we share ideas, learn from one another and speak with a unified voice on the issues affecting our industry. I want to create new opportunities for members across our states to connect and participate in ways that bring meaningful value to their businesses and support their professional growth. Tell us a little about your family: I am very lucky to have a great family whose love and support brighten every part of my life. My husband, Jason Fass, and I were married in 2019 and have two great kiddos. Little Eddie, 5, loves baseball, climbing, swimming and soccer. His sister, Abigail, 4, is my redheaded mini-me. She enjoys gymnastics, soccer and thinking she knows everything. Yes, they are close in age, only 14 months apart. Tell us a fact: I played Division I women’s water polo at UC Berkeley. Go Bears! Your Favorite Movie: I love the old school mafia movies: The Godfather and Goodfellas. continued on page 8
